The Wounded Knee District School is an accredited, Tribal Grant School located in the village of Manderson South Dakota, on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The school is structured to provide basic educational and supplementary educational programs and services to the Kindergarten through 8th grade students. WKDS provides services to the communities of Manderson, Wounded Knee and Pine Ridge. Wounded Knee District School provides breakfast and lunch with the free and reduced meals at 98%.
The Mission of Wounded Knee District School is to educate the future leaders of the Oglala Sioux Tribe by,
- Incorporating the Lakota Language and Values into all programs and services
- Providing for the needs of individual students and their families
- Assisting students to acquire the academic and social skills needed for meaningful and productive life in modern society
